Arava® and Its Side Effects - A Lawyer May Be Able to Help

Arava®

Arava® (leflunomide) is a prescription arthritis medication designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Classified as a disease-modifying anti-inflammatory drug, Arava® prevents painful inflammation by inhibiting the formation of the cells that cause it. But while the drug has been known to work wonders in some patients, Arava® like Vioxx® and Celebrex®, is known to cause serious side effects. In fact, Arava®, manufactured by Aventis Pharma and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1998, has been linked to at least 12 deaths and 130 cases of liver damage, as well as to increased risk of hypertension, lymphoma, and Stevens-Johnsons syndrome. In response, the high-profile consumer advocacy group Public Citizen petitioned the FDA for the immediate recall of the drug in 2002; however, the request was denied.

The following are some of Arava®'s more serious side effects. If you have been harmed by Arava®, contact an attorney for guidance.
