BextraŽ - Contact an Attorney if You Have Been Injured
Like Vioxx®, BextraŽ is a prescription medication belonging to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs are designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, serious menstrual cramping, and other types of severe pain. There are several different classifications of NSAIDS; BextraŽ falls under the COX-2 inhibitor heading, meaning that it does not, like traditional NSAIDs, block the enzymes that coat and protect the stomach; the blocking of these enzymes can cause severe gastrointestinal problems, such as stomach ulcers, stomach irritation, and stomach bleeding. However, studies have linked COX-2 inhibitor drugs to the same kinds of problems - enough so that Vioxx®, one of the most popular Cox-2 inhibitors, was recalled in late September, and BextraŽ may be next.
